Do biosurfactants as anti-biofilm agents have a future in industrial water systems?

چکیده

Biofilms are bacterial communities embedded in exopolymeric substances that form on the surfaces of both man-made and natural structures. Biofilm formation industrial water systems such as cooling towers results biofouling biocorrosion poses a major health concern well an economic burden. Traditionally, biofilms treated with alternating doses oxidizing non-oxidizing biocides, but resistance increases, higher biocide concentrations needed. Using chemically synthesized surfactants combination biocides is also not new idea; however, these often biodegradable lead to accumulation reservoirs. Biosurfactants have become essential bioeconomy product for diverse applications; reports their use combating biofilm-related problems management limited only few studies. powerful anti-biofilm agents can act biodispersants. In laboratory settings, efficacy biosurfactants range between 26% 99.8%. For example, long-chain rhamnolipids isolated from Burkholderia thailandensis inhibit biofilm 50% 90%, while lipopeptide biosurfactant Bacillus amyloliquefaciens was able up 96% 99%. Additionally, disperse preformed 95.9%. The antibiotics be increased by 25% when combined biosurfactants, seen V9T14 co-formulated ampicillin, cefazolin, tobramycin. this review, we discuss how formed if agents, future systems. We then summarize reported mode action molecules functionality dispersal agents. Finally, highlight application anti-fouling anti-corrosion

Insect Pathogens as Biological Control Agents: Do They Have a Future?

b r Naturally occurring entomopathogens are important regulatory factors in insect populations. Many species are employed as biological control agents of insect pests in row and glasshouse crops, orchards, ornamentals, range, turf and lawn, stored products, and forestry and for abatement of pest and vector insects of veterinary and medical importance. The comparison of entomopathogens with conv...

Do portfolios have a future?

While portfolios have seen an unprecedented surge in popularity, they have also become the subject of controversy: learners often perceive little gain from writing reflections as part of their portfolios; scholars question the ethics of such obligatory reflection; and students, residents, teachers and scholars alike condemn the bureaucracy surrounding portfolio implementation in competency-base...

Do Indexing and Abstracting Have a Future?*

The World Wide Web presents information access problems orders of magnitude greater than any encountered before. These problems are identified and discussed. Although the intellectual indexing of the entire Web is impossible and, in any case, not worthwhile, selective indexing of high value resources (e.g., by means of specialized portals) is essential. The summarization of Web resources (i.e.,...

Microemulsions are highly effective anti-biofilm agents.

AIMS The demonstration of the antibiofilm effects of pharmaceutical microemulsions. METHODS AND RESULTS Microemulsions were prepared as physically stable oil/water systems. Previous work by this group has shown that microemulsions are highly effective antimembrane agents that result in rapid losses of viability in planktonic populations of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. In ...
